"I was looking around at different self-guided camino companies as I was a bit unsure of doing this completely on my own as a solo female. In my early communications with Ben, I knew I had made the right choice! He gave me great tips & advice before the trip and I felt super supported from the get-go."

Arrive in Burgos, a historic city known for its towering Gothic cathedral and vibrant old town. Wander medieval streets, sample local tapas, and soak in the cultural energy before beginning your journey across the Meseta.
Day 1: Arrive Burgos
Leave Burgos behind and step into the Meseta, a vast plateau that many pilgrims find spiritually grounding for its emptiness and quietude. The walk leads through open farmland, past scattered ruins and tiny settlements, to Hornillos del Camino, a one-street village that has remained almost unchanged since medieval times. The day is mentally meditative and physically steady, with long straight paths, almost no shade, and expansive views. The terrain is flat and consistent, mostly along dirt tracks bordered by wheat fields and dry stone walls.
Day 2: Burgos to Hornillos del Camino (20km)
Continue across the plains as the Camino stretches westward under a wide sky. Pass through remote villages like Hontanas, a hidden gem that appears suddenly in a valley, and the evocative ruins of San Antón Monastery, where pilgrims once slept beneath Gothic arches. End the day in Castrojeriz, a long, slender town with Roman roots and the dramatic remains of a hilltop fortress. The stage is full of historical resonance, quiet beauty, and contemplative solitude. Expect soft trails, minor ups and downs, and a blend of dusty farm roads and grassy lanes.
Day 3: Hornillos to Castrojeriz (20km)
Start the day with a steep but rewarding climb up the Alto de Mostelares, where panoramic views unfold in every direction. From here, descend into a landscape of rolling fields and canals, eventually reaching the tranquil Canal de Castilla. The path follows the canal's towpath for much of the day—flat, shaded, and peaceful. Your walk ends in Frómista, a small town known for the exquisite Romanesque Church of San Martín, one of the architectural jewels of the Camino.
Day 4: Castrojeriz to Frómista (26km)
The route today passes through a string of rural villages, such as Villalcázar de Sirga, home to a grand Templar church that once served medieval pilgrims. Expect long, straight paths flanked by fields of wheat and sunflowers—classic Meseta walking. The openness of the landscape invites reflection and quiet. End your day in Carrión de los Condes, a welcoming town steeped in monastic history, with lively squares, ancient monasteries, and a strong pilgrim community.
Day 5: Fromista to Carrión de los Condes (25km)
Today is one of the most remote stretches of the Camino. You’ll walk along the ancient Vía Aquitania, a Roman road that runs arrow-straight through empty fields and offers few signs of modern life. There are no villages for over 16km, making this a contemplative and inward-looking stage. Arrive in Calzadilla de la Cueza, a peaceful village surrounded by quiet farmland, where the sense of isolation slowly gives way to camaraderie among fellow walkers.
Day 6: Carrión to Calzadilla de la Cueza (17km)
The trail today gently rolls through small hamlets and open terrain, dotted with shady rest areas and picnic spots built for pilgrims. Fields stretch endlessly in all directions, and the route offers long moments of quiet rhythm. Eventually, you arrive in Sahagún, a town with strong Mudejar architecture, Moorish influences, and deep roots in the religious history of the Camino. It's a great place to rest, resupply, and explore some lesser-known treasures of the route.
Day 7: Calzadilla to Sahagún (22km)
Today’s walk follows a long, straight path lined with trees and wildflowers, with benches and rest stops spaced out for reflection. The land is gently undulating, with few towns to distract from the silence and the wide skies overhead. This is classic Meseta walking: calm, solitary, and deeply meditative. The stage ends in El Burgo Ranero, a rustic village with limited services but a warm pilgrim welcome and peaceful ambiance.
Day 8: Sahagún to El Burgo Ranero (20km)
Another tranquil day of walking through the Meseta, with the landscape gradually softening as you move closer to León. You'll pass small chapels, groves of trees, and the occasional irrigation canal, all under the watchful gaze of the open sky. Pilgrims often find themselves falling into a quiet rhythm here. Finish the day in Mansilla de las Mulas, a charming walled town with medieval origins and a lovely spot to unwind before entering the city tomorrow.
Day 9: El Burgo Ranero to Mansilla de las Mulas (19km)
Today marks your transition from rural simplicity to urban energy. The walk into León takes you through small villages and suburban sprawl before arriving in the heart of the city. Once inside the old town, the Camino spirit returns, with pilgrim-friendly bars, historical sites, and plenty of places to rest. Don’t miss the awe-inspiring Cathedral of León, famous for its stained glass windows, and the Basilica of San Isidoro. In the evening, join locals and fellow walkers for food and laughter in the vibrant Barrio Húmedo.
Day 10: Mansilla to León (19km)
Stage three comes to a close in magnificent León. Take time to explore the city’s stunning Gothic cathedral, stroll through the lively Barrio Húmedo, and enjoy a well-earned feast of tapas and local wines. You’ll return here soon to begin Stage 4 — but for now, rest, reflect, and celebrate how far you’ve come.
Day 11: Depart León
